Seasonal Guide: The Best Times to Book a UK Caravan Holiday

From summer beach breaks to cosy autumn escapes, here's when to book your caravan holiday for the best weather, prices, and availability.

One of the great advantages of static caravan holidays is that the season runs far longer than many people realise. While the peak summer weeks are the most popular, each season offers something unique, and savvy holiday makers can find excellent value in the shoulder months. The key is matching the season to the kind of holiday you actually want.

Summer (July–August) is peak season for obvious reasons. The weather is at its warmest, school holidays are in full swing, and the atmosphere on caravan parks is buzzing. Expect the highest prices and tightest availability, if you want a specific caravan or location, book well in advance. Summer 2026 is already filling up for the most popular Pembrokeshire and Cornish parks. If you are tied to school holidays, our advice is simple: book as early as possible, ideally by February or March at the latest.

Spring (April–June) might just be the smartest time to book. May and June often deliver excellent weather, sometimes better than August, with far fewer crowds. Caravan parks are greener and quieter, and owners are often more flexible on minimum night stays. The late spring bank holidays (May half-term in particular) are in high demand, but midweek stays in May and June can be a real bargain. Late spring is also the best time to see bluebell woods in full bloom and witness the countryside at its most lush and vibrant.

Autumn (September–October) is the hidden gem of the caravan holiday calendar. September in particular can be glorious, warm seas, golden light, and dramatically reduced prices. Many parks reduce their entertainment schedules after the school holidays, but the facilities are still open and the walks are spectacular. October half-term brings another brief surge, so book early for that week. Autumn is also the season for storm-watching from the comfort of your caravan, there is something deeply satisfying about being warm and cosy while dramatic weather rolls in off the sea.

Winter (November–March) sees many caravan parks close or operate on reduced schedules, but a growing number remain open year-round, particularly in popular locations. A winter caravan holiday is a completely different experience: think brisk coastal walks followed by cosy evenings with board games and hot chocolate. Prices are at their lowest, and you'll often have the park almost to yourself. For couples or friends seeking a peaceful escape, winter caravan holidays offer incredible value and a uniquely atmospheric experience.

What about specific events and festivals? Timing your caravan holiday around local events can add an extra dimension to your trip. The Tenby Arts Festival in September, the Abergavenny Food Festival the same month, and various Christmas markets in December are brilliant additions to a caravan break. Research what's happening near your chosen park, you might discover a local food festival, music event, or cultural celebration that transforms a simple holiday into something truly memorable.

Weather is, of course, the great British variable. The south-west of England and Wales generally enjoy the mildest temperatures, while Scotland and northern England are cooler but often drier than their reputation suggests. It's worth noting that the UK's highest recorded temperature was in Coningsby, Lincolnshire, not Cornwall, reminding us that great weather can surprise you anywhere. The golden rule is to pack for all eventualities regardless of the season or location.

The key takeaway? If you have school-age children, book your summer dates as early as possible. If you have flexibility, target late spring or early autumn for the best combination of weather, availability, and value. And don't write off the winter, a caravan holiday in November or February can be a wonderfully peaceful escape. Whatever season you choose, there's a static caravan waiting to welcome you.
