Fitting a new consumer unit - electrician or DIY?

The consumer unit in our static is ancient - probably the original from when the van was new in 2005. I'm fairly confident with electrics (done plenty of domestic wiring) and thinking of replacing it with a modern unit with RCD protection. Is this something I can tackle myself or should I get a qualified sparky in?

Honestly, get a sparky. Consumer unit replacement falls under Part P of the building regs and your site will almost certainly require a certificate. Plus if anything goes wrong - fire, injury - and it turns out you did the work yourself without proper certification, your insurance won't touch it. It's not worth the risk for the £200-300 a sparky will charge.
